Rapid Fire Series: Renald Jean-Charles

By Christina Burnley | April 20, 2020

[To give you a sense of what we’re busy working on over here at ATLATL HQ in Charleston, we sat down zoomed with ATLATL’s 3D Artist II, Renald Jean-Charles, for a quick Q&A.]

Renald was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. Growing up, he always had a love for video games, but it was one cartoon called Reboot that sparked his career interest. As more video games switched from 2D sprite to 3D, he recognized how important 3D was in the world of technology, and he wanted to be a part of it.

Once he knew what he wanted to do, he talked with a high school guidance counselor who told him that game design wasn’t a real major at the time. From there, he decided to go to Johnson Wales University to learn graphic design instead. After two years, he transferred to his dream school,  University of Advanced Technology, and got his bachelors in Game Design and Multimedia.

This was a pivotal moment for Renald. He got to be part of the emerging shift that technology now plays in education.

He got his foot in the door with his first job in production art, he was hooked. After dedicating 7 years to the company, he was ready for the next chapter. He eventually found ATLATL, and immediately connected with the company’s mission. Fast forward to today, and Renald is going on six years with the team.
